12/19 (Fri): Kumu Hula, Darcey Moniz
& Hālau Hula ‘O Pukaʻikapuaokalani
Kumu Hula, Darcey Moniz comes from a traditional background of hula. Darceyʻs school of hula is well known for her tireless efforts in teaching hula to her community at their local YMCA. Darcyʻs school is also a very big part of the hula industry and have participated in year round Hawaiian observances, hula competitions, and notable events. Kumu Darcey brings character and personality to the native Hawaiian dance with style, attitude, and a little “sass.”
12/20 (Sat): Kumu Hula, Maelia Carter
& Hālau Ka Pā Hula ʻO Kauanoe O Waʻahila
Kumu Hula, Maelia Carter is an award winning school of hula. Maelia is rooted in its tradition past down by her grandmother. Kumu Maelia is urrently one of the distinguished judges of the most prestigious and iconic hula competition known as the annual Merrie Monarch Hula Festival held in Hilo, Hawaii. Maeliaʻs award winning school brings a wide range of accolades in formal tradition of Hawaiian dance.
12/21 (Sun): Kumu Hula, Leimomi Maldonado
& Ka Hale I O Kahala
Kumu Hula, Leimomi Maldonado is a woman of great distinction and a veteran in the native dance. Her hula lineage is rooted in the renown hula master, the late MAIKI AIU LAKE. Known as “Auntie Lei,” she began her hula journey at the age of six. Auntie Lei brings an impeccable resume of hula! Her school of hula is well trained and brings a quality of hula often unseen today. Auntie Lei is truly a Hawaiian Treasure!
12/22 (Mon): KILIA Hawaiian Musical Serenade (All Female Trio)
ʻAuliʻi Tai Hook / Huki Plunkett / Hiwa Walker
KILIA refers to the name of a specific area of reef just outside of the community and town of Hauʻula, where all three young ladies are from. Kilia - as it refers to this reef reminds these young Hawaiian women of their home town, upbringing, and their desire to hold true to their bonds of friendship - a sisterhood. All three women are classmates of the Kamehameha Schools - Kapālama. Together, as musical artists, they create beautiful Hawaiian music for all walks of life to experience their young voices and sultry harmonies. Each, are unique and carry a distinctive personality that makes up this all female musical group!
12/23 (Tue): Kumu Hula, Sally Kauakea Yoza
& Hālau 'O Napuala'ikauika'iu
Kumu Hula, Sally Kauakea Yoza has made a name for herself in the hula industry with incredible performances and presentations with her gift in teaching Hawaiiʻs children, teens, and our young adults. Kumu Sally brings excitement, joy, and quality to her performances. Kumu Sally has earned her place among a large generation of hula masters that have a special gift when it comes to Hawaiiʻs “young.” Kumu Sally is well known and respected in our community and her children are a joy to watch and experience!
12/24 (Wed): KAULUA - A Hoʻokani Christmas
KAULUA refers to a traditional double-hauled canoe. The group is founded by the two lead individuals, making both of them one in the same - in movement, in sync, and in motion. They are, Kalā Melim and Kikau Kia. KAULUA is a young, up and coming Hawaiian musical group consisting of Guitar, Ukulele, and featuring, a Steel Guitarist. A Hoʻokani Christmas is simply to “Play Holiday Hawaiian Music!” They will capture the joy of the Christmas with a deep traditional style of music rarely heard today by our youth! These young musicians have an “old soul,” taking you back into the 1960s and 1970s with a flare of musical skill, vocals, and great personalities that will certainly please the hearts this season.
12/25 (Thu): KIA ʻOhana - A TRUE Hawaiian Family Christmas!
Featuring Renown Musical Artist, Blaine Kia and Son, Kikau. Blaineʻs wife, Kaleonani and two daughters, Ōpua and Māhie perform the art of Hula.
The KIA ʻOhana led by Blaine Kia, is a family of five! Blaine Kia is a notable Kumu Hula, award winning entertainer, and award winning Hawaiian cultural consultant. KIAʻs entire family are all hula raised and musically inclined! The KIA family have been performing in Waikiki for nearly thirty years. Where as, Blaine Kia was born and raised in Waikiki where he is well known for his cultural and musical contributions throughout Waikiki and abroad. The KIA ʻOhana will bring a heartfelt performance through the love of family this holiday season.
