Sunday Showcase Added to Na Mele No Na Pua

Honolulu, Hawaii - Beginning Sunday, April 06, a new "Sunday Showcase" of island entertainment will be presented as part of Outrigger's Na Mele No Na Pua - Music for the Generations Hawaiian music heritage program at Waikiki Beach Walk. This free weekly program will feature popular Hawaiian musicians, up-and-coming local performers, hula halau presentations and other island performances on the Plaza Stage at Waikiki Beach Walk every Sunday evening, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Sunday Showcase is a new component of the Hawaiian music heritage program Na Mele No Na Pua - Music for the Generations, a collaborative effort between Outrigger Enterprises Group, the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame and the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts.

In April, visitors to Waikiki Beach Walk can look forward to the following Sunday Showcase performances:
April 6 - Pali
April 13 - IMUA Da Band
April 20 - Ala & Na Hui Lokahi with Hula Halau O Pua Loke
April 27 - A Touch of Gold

Na Mele No Na Pua - Music for the Generations was launched in April 2007 with a free monthly Kama'aina concert series on the Grand Lanai of Embassy Suites-Waikiki Beach Walk from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Many of Hawaii's award-winning entertainers have already been featured, including Eddie Kamae & The Sons of Hawaii, the late Aunty Genoa Keawe, Raiatea Helm, Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom and Ledward Ka'apana. Beginning April 2008, the monthly Kama'aina concert series shifts to a bi-monthly and Sunday schedule with concerts to be held on the final Sunday of every other month, as follows:

Sunday, April 27 - featuring Frank DeLima Sunday, June 29 - artist TBA Sunday, August 31 - artist TBA Sunday, October 26 - artist TBA Sunday, December 21 (special pre-Christmas concert) - artist TBA

The introduction of the new Sunday Showcase means that every other month visitors to Waikiki Beach Walk will be treated to a double performance with the signature Na Mele No Na Pua Kama'aina concert taking place on the Grand Lanai of the Embassy Suites-Waikiki Beach Walk at its normal time from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., followed immediately by the Sunday Showcase on the Waikiki Beach Walk Plaza Stage from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.. The time slot for the weekly Sunday Showcase performance will only shift on those Sundays that feature a Na Mele No Na Pua Kama'aina concert; all other performances will start at 5:00 p.m.

In addition to the Kama'aina concerts and Sunday Showcases, Waikiki Beach Walk continues to offer the free weekly program Ku Ha'aheo, "To Cherish with Pride," held every Tuesday afternoon from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the Waikiki Beach Walk Plaza Stage. Led by kumu hula and cultural advisor Blaine Kamalani Kia, the weekly performance features both adult and keiki (children) hula dancers in a unique blending of contemporary and traditional elements focusing on island traditions, cultural beliefs, classic hapa haole tunes and historical moments in Hawaii, all told through song and dance.

Valet parking for up to four hours is available for $6.00 at the Embassy Suites-Waikiki Beach Walk (201 Beachwalk) and the Wyndham Vacation Ownership-Waikiki Beach Walk (227 Lewers Street), with any same-day purchase from any Waikiki Beach Walk merchant.
