Another great restaurant has opened at Waikiki Beach Walk(TM)!
Roy's Waikiki celebrated its grand opening with a gala fundraiser on April 27 to benefit the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii (VASH), a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing the Aloha Spirit with U.S. and international visitors who experience adversities while traveling.
Guests gathered at the Roy's Waikiki entrance on the corner of Kalia Road and Lewers Street to enjoy the opening ceremony staged by Tihati Productions and featuring everything from conch shells and torch lighting, to hula and Hawaiian music.
Once inside, guests were treated to an elaborate array of specialty cocktails and Chef Roy Yamaguchi's world-renown cuisine. Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann also attended the festivities and congratulated Chef Yamaguchi on the opening of his 35th restaurant.
Since the debut of the first Roy's Restaurant in 1988, Roy's has set the standard for Hawaiian fusion cuisine worldwide. Each of his restaurant menus around the world blends European cooking techniques with the fresh local ingredients found in Asia and the Pacific. Tokyo-born, Chef Yamaguchi vividly recalls visits with his grandparents on Maui, where he first tasted fish, crab, octopus, and lobster at local piers. Inspired by the Pacific's bounty, he graduated from the Culinary Institute of America at the age of 19 and became a "master chef." With awards and distinctions from all over the globe, Chef Yamaguchi is Hawaii's first-ever James Beard Award winner.
Roy's Waikiki is a much anticipated and very welcome addition to the culinary offering at Waikiki Beach Walk. The restaurant will be open for both lunch and dinner, 365 days a year, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. For reservations, call 923-7697.
