Honolulu Marathon Runs Into Waikiki Beach Walk

Famed event begins with “Aloha Nights” celebrations December 9 and 10

The Honolulu Marathon will celebrate its 50th anniversary year on December 11, when an estimated potential 25,000 participants will start the 26.2-mile competition that runs from downtown Honolulu through Waikiki to Hawaii Kai and back to the finish line at Kapiolani Park.

Prior to the pre-dawn starting gun on December 11, the famed marathon will commence with two spectacular “Aloha Nights” events at Waikiki Beach Walk.

On Friday, December 9, the 5th-largest marathon in the US will officially kick-off at Waikiki Beach Walk with an opening ceremony that will feature the traditional lighting of the torch. A concert will follow and include multiple Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning performers Na Hoa and Henry Kapono.

The festivities continue on Saturday the 10th, with Merrie Monarch & Queen Lili’oukalani Keiki Hula competition winners Halau Hula ‘O Hokulani and Mango Season performing on the Waikiki Beach Walk Plaza.
